What Does Devon Have to Offer in the Winter?
Devon, in our opinion, is the greatest county in the country (yes, we know we’re a little biased…) and we’re here to tell you why. Whilst in the midst of summer, Devon is the thriving tourist hotspot, perfect for beach trips and soaking up that vitamin D, winter provides a great opportunity for family fun, too. Aiming to spark some inspiration into this cold season, we’ve compiled a list of top things to do in Devon!
Dartmoor
The famed national park and certified area of national beauty, this is, without doubt, one of our top things to do in Devon this winter. The miles and miles of moors provide endless opportunity to explore. It’s perfect for blowing away those cobwebs and really getting the blood pumping! It’s a good option for keeping the kids active, too – especially with darkening nights curtailing their after-school play time. Wrap up warm, make a flask of tea and dig those mittens out from the drawer and you’re good to go…what better way to spend a Sunday morning?
Zoos
Of course zoos make our list of top things to do in Devon, there are so many to choose from and they’re pretty much all guaranteed fun! Paignton Zoo is rated the top wildlife attraction in Devon on Trip Advisor, it’s a wonderful day out for everyone! With a wide range of animals and reptiles – and both indoor and outdoor activities – it’s fun no matter what the weather! If that tickles your fancy, then why not try visiting Exmouth Zoo, the National Marine Aquarium or the Miniature Pony Sanctuary? All of which provide great deals for families, so you don’t have to break the bank to have some fun!
Museums
Why not take the opportunity to do something fun and educational? Museums are a great winter activity and can be enjoyed no matter what the weather has in store! Devon has a lot to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice! You can try Powderham Castle, which provides an informative walking tour or perhaps the Royal Albert Museum in Exeter filled with fun and exciting artefacts! If you’re looking for something a bit more scientific, then Lyme Regis is the perfect place for you, David Attenborough described it as “delightful and remarkable” … And if it’s good enough for David then it has definitely earned a spot on our list of top things to do in Devon!
We hope we’ve convinced you that Devon has an abundance to offer this winter…there are hours of fun just waiting to be enjoyed!
