Ideford is a charming and popular village situated between the market town of Newton Abbot and the traditional wool town of Chudleigh. The village retains a community feel with a historic church, popular public house, village hall and green, a children’s play park and an equestrian centre. Ideford is surrounded by rolling Devon countryside, ideal for walkers as well as providing a scenic approach!
Ideford lies 2 ½ miles from Chudleigh which is a small town with an array of amenities and approx 4 ½ miles from the coastline of Teignmouth. Large supermarkets can be found in Kingsteignton, Newton Abbot and Exeter. There is easy access to both the A38 (Devon Expressway) providing access to Plymouth, Exeter and the M5 motorway network and the A380 which connects to Torbay. There is an international airport in Exeter and mainline railway stations in Newton Abbot, Totnes and Exeter.
Royal George Cottage has a traditional apex storm porch with elaborate finial over a timber entrance door. On entering the property you are greeted by the charming open plan living room which extends through to the kitchen and courtyard beyond. There is a beautiful riven slate floor and in one corner is an exposed brick fireplace with large timber beam and space for a wood burner. An oversized high level shelf provides plentiful general storage but has previously been used as a decorative shelf for cut logs! To the front aspect there is a multi-pane double glazed window with a pleasant street vista. The living room opens into the kitchen/dining area and there are two timber ceiling beams which enhance the two rooms. A timber ledge and brace latched door leads into the walk-in larder.
The kitchen has a selection of light coloured wood, wall and base units with granite work surfaces and brick-effect tiled splash backs. There is an inset sink with monobloc mixer tap. An electric range cooker with double oven and grill is a particular feature of the kitchen. There is also space and plumbing for a washing machine. A full height glazed uPVC door opens to the courtyard garden and the Calor gas central heating boiler is between this and a uPVC window to the rear courtyard. There is also space for a kitchen table and chairs. From the kitchen an open staircase leads up to the first floor landing with doors to the bedrooms and shower room. Bedroom one is a generous size, to the front of the property. It has painted floorboards and a multi-paned double glazed window overlooks the pleasant street view.
Bedroom two, at the rear, has varnished floorboards and is also a good size double room. Double glazed French doors open on to a balcony which offers a lovely outlook and space to sit. The beautiful contemporary shower room has recently been refurbished. It comprises a wash basin set in a stylish vanity cupboard and a close coupled WC. The large glazed shower enclosure houses a thermostatic shower bar and is fully tiled.
To the front of the cottage is a low-level wall with three attached planters. There is also on-road parking outside and along Butts Lane/Church Road opposite. The enclosed rear courtyard garden offers space for al-fresco dining with its southerly aspect. Timber flooring (matching that used on the upstairs balcony) finishes this area nicely.
From the A380 take the turning signposted to Ideford. Follow the road to a T-junction and turn left in to Longthorn Road. Continue into the village and just past The Royal Oak public house the road becomes Fore Street. Royal George Cottage is on the right hand side opposite the turning in to Church Road.
